Flash Fiction Challenge: Deserted

Welcome to the fourth weekly flash fiction challenge of January!!  Here are the rules:
  • You have one week to submit if you want to be included.
  • You are up to challenge yourself AND win a copy of either my short story, Nothing Lasts Forever, or a copy of my giant book of poetry, Bony Fingered Limbs.  Just let me know which you'd prefer, should you be chosen!  :)  It will come to you via email as a PDF file, DRM-free, so you can send it to whatever e-book-reader-device you may prefer.  ALSO, If you win so often you run out of choices, I will offer my services in editing something of yours, so there is always incentive!
  • Your word cap this week is 1000 words, so it's a little shorter, like last week!  That makes it a bit harder, but I think you can do it!  We'll work our way down shorter each month until we're awesomely churning out quickie stories like pros.  It is a good thing.
  • Your challenge for this week is something I am calling Deserted.  Let the photo above be your inspiration!
  • Get me your submissions by Midnight next Friday morning, 2-3-12, Mountain Standard Time.  Link us your story in the comment area!  Put it up on your own blog, or on a public note on Facebook or in a Google Document file.  Somewhere so we can all see it.  Make sure you link your story!  Just  to be sure it's not passed over by accident, missed, or not included in the contest!  Thanks!

Anyway!! Let's see what you've got!

  3. This pic is a little squished and difficult to see as is, but if I make it any bigger, it spills out of the text area. Click on it to see the full pic and save it if you want! :)

  9. Alrighty! Took me a bit longer than I'd like to get to all these, but here we go!

Frank: 24 ~ Very interesting! I love the spin on it and the name used for the zombie creatures. Could have double meaning, the ending… if the woman he pushed is one of the ones coming after him. Good stuff. Can’t wait to read more of it! Keep it coming! Seems like your zombie collection is coming along beautifully!

Kristy: 22 ~ Really had me going, but the very ending didn’t seem to fit? Felt like it was missing something, or perhaps I missed something related to music in there somewhere else? I read it more than once, though, and didn’t catch it.

The way the woman took both men’s money AND lied to them about the presence of ale had me laughing, though. Well played, madam!

Alicia: 22 ~ Fun little story! Creepy empty town in the middle of nowhere… they do crop up from time to time! Kinda reminds me of the opening to Rango!

    L. Anne: 24 ~ Really well done! You definitely kept your tense slips more in control this time, I could tell you put time into it! :) There were a few extra commas here and there, but not enough to distract from the story. Awesome stuff! This is a feeling I was leaning toward for my own story, actually. I didn’t run with it as I had something else going in my head, but murder was what initially came to mind when I got the idea for the field picture.

SO! Frank and L. Anne tie for the week! Buzz me over at bekajoi@gmail.com to claim your prize! :)

    Well done everyone!
